Not a Biologist

Drawing plants means looking closely and carefully.
Inspired by Leonhart Fuchs’ detailed drawings and descriptions of herbs and flowers in his herbal book from 1543, this series traces how a medical expert transferred the characteristics of a plant onto paper, fitting it into the rectangle of a page. While Fuchs’ purpose was to classify and identify, Not a Biologist involved re-drawing the watercolour images with ink on paper and cross-printing those secondary illustrations with a risograph print, intertwining the shoots and roots.
